Job Description

As a Senior Software Engineer at Google, you'll contribute to XBorg, a novel orchestration layer for scheduling throughput-oriented workloads, focusing on ML training and inference. You'll write and test code, participate in design reviews, review code from peers, contribute to documentation, and debug system issues. XBorg improves resource occupancy and efficiency for ML workloads across Alphabet products using innovative features like weighted fair queuing and opportunistic resource access. Responsibilities include software development, design reviews, code reviews, documentation, and issue resolution. The role requires expertise in software development, testing, design, and architecture within a large-scale distributed system.
Must have:
  • 5+ years software development experience
  • Experience with data structures/algorithms
  • 3+ years experience testing/launching software
  • 1+ year experience in software design & architecture
  • Proficient in one or more programming languages
  • Code review and debugging skills
Good to have:
  • Master's/PhD in CS or related field
  • Experience developing accessible technologies
  • Technical leadership experience
  • Experience with machine learning infrastructure
  • Experience with C++

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages, and with data structures/algorithms.
  • 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
  • Experience developing accessible technologies.
  • Experience in a technical leadership role.
  • Experience with machine learning infrastructure.
  • Experience with C++.

Xborg's innovative features and introduction of new concepts, such as weighted fair queuing and seamless opportunistic access to unused resource, spatial and platform flexibility, etc, have led to increased resource occupancy and efficiency for ML workloads across major Alphabet products.

Responsibilities

  • Write and test product or system development code.
  • Participate in, or lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders to decide amongst available technologies.
  • Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g.,style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
  • Contribute to existing documentation or educational content and adapt content based on product/program updates and user feedback.
  • Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve by analyzing the sources of issues and the impact on hardware, network, or service operations and quality.
