Meet Our Team: Software development teams in WBD’s Direct-to-consumer (DTC) division build and deliver applications and services powering the customer experience of products such as MAX, which run on connected TVs, set-top boxes, smartphones, tablets, consoles, PCs, and other streaming devices.
Operational Engineering (OpEng) teams play a critical role in ensuring these streaming products and services run smoothly and efficiently at scale. Our specialized teams focus on areas such as Infrastructure and Cluster Management, Release and Development Processes, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), Operational Excellence, and Observability.
Who You Are:
The ideal candidate has a passion for technology. You likely have been a software developer in your past developing features for customers in either a customer facing application or backend service. However, during your tenure, you have found interest in serving your fellow software developers through innovative platforms, tools, services, and processes that help them be productive.
You also have amazing skills that allow you to take requirements to produce scalable, reliable, and easy to understand architecture. Additionally, you are astute in taking an architectural design and performing a work breakdown for your team so that your team can deliver value each sprint. Lastly you are a mentor to your fellow software developers helping each person grow. You do this by being a role model within the team.
What you’ll do:
As part of the Operational Engineering organization, you'll use software development skills to tackle data challenges and automate solutions. You'll expand our operational data capabilities and define how we provide developers and leaders with operational intelligence. By understanding our streaming services, you'll use your software architectural, infrastructure, data, and cloud expertise to optimize our technical ecosystem. You'll need to be deeply technical and collaborative. Experience with infrastructure-as-code, data pipelines, site reliability engineering, DevOps, and data lake management is desired. Strong systems knowledge and troubleshooting skills are also needed. The ideal candidate is a creative thinker, passionate about technology, and driven to innovate. They should demonstrate data-driven decision-making, curiosity, and a love for solving complex challenges. If you enjoy problem-solving at scale, building scalable software to automate infrastructure, troubleshooting, and are technically proficient, this is the role for you.

Roles & Responsibilities:
You work on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. You play a leading role on the team designing and develop major functional changes to existing software systems, or new ones.
You create functional-level impact and deliver more complex functional changes. You implement activities that generally impact multiple components, processes, your own work, and other units, teams, and projects.
You design components and complex architectures while solving business problems with simple and straightforward solutions, applying appropriate technologies and software development best practices. You lead the design and development of the most complex enhancements.
You build multiple stable, scalable feature changes that can be successfully shipped to customers in production. Your software contributions in production are the model for highly available, low latency, and efficient software.
You are a collaborative leader that makes other developers and team members around you more productive by sharing your knowledge and helping to drive technical decisions. You can communicate complicated concepts simply.
You drive best practices and set standards for your team. You are a role model for your teams. Your software contributions in production are the model for highly available, low latency, and efficient software.
You are expected to mentor other developers on your team.
What to Bring:
At least 5+ years of overall experience in software, systems, and infrastructure.
At least 3+ years of experience as a software developer using at least one of (Java, Python, Kotlin, Golang or Javascript) and has a good understanding of how software applications are built.
Hands-on experience with at least two build systems consisting of gradle, maven, yarn, npm, bazel, make, buck, rush
At least 3-5 years of hands-on experience with Cloud computing platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure), including design, implementation, and maintenance of large-scale environments.
Strong CS fundamentals and a track record of implementing highly reliable automation using any scripting or programming language such as Python/Go.
Hands-on experience with at least one IaC tool (e.g. CDK, Terraform, CloudFormation)
Experience in working across product, software development, and analytics teams to evaluate new ideas, discuss technical concepts, create scalable designs, implement new models, and make tradeoffs to remove roadblocks
Operational experience (i.e. on-call rotation, incident response, playbooks, gameday’s, etc).
Ability to collaborate effectively with remote peers across disparate geographies and time zones.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with particular emphasis on technical documentation (including diagramming)
Good to Have:
Experience with container orchestration technologies such as Kubernetes or AWS EKS.
Hands-on experience with automating development workflow pipelines (CI/CD)
Experience with a variety of cloud services like OpenSearch, AMP, Kinesis, network, storage etc.
Deep understanding of distributed systems, microservice architecture, kafka, logging/metric/tracing platforms (ELK, Prometheus, Grafana, OTEL etc), and security.
