Job Description

The Senior Site Reliability Engineer at Microsoft's Enterprise Identity and Access Management (EIAM) team will support and maintain directory data synchronization across Microsoft's ecosystem. This involves working with hybrid environments, partnering with development teams, and ensuring system security and compliance. Responsibilities include implementing automation, creating reusable code for IAM services, leading architecture discussions, operationalizing and scaling IAM services, translating business requirements into technical specifications, and acting as a DRI in on-call rotations. The role requires building monitoring and alerting capabilities, recommending mitigation strategies, defining and implementing metrics, and influencing team members to act on findings. A strong focus on security and compliance, including contributing to the Secure Future Initiative, is essential.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications  

  • 6+ years technical experience in software engineering, network engineering, or systems administration  
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 3+ years technical experience in software engineering, network engineering, or systems administration  
    • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 2+ years technical experience in software engineering, network engineering, or systems administration.  
       
  • 6+ years of demonstrated experience in implementing highly reliable and secure systems.  
  • 6+ years of experience monitoring performance and availability, improving efficiency, automating and reducing toil of large-scale hybrid, legacy and modern identity and access management systems.  
  • 6+ years of experience handling security and compliance requirements, implementing leading practices to harden and secure systems and their dependencies  

Other Requirements: 

 

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:   

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. 

 

Additional or Preferred Qualifications:  

  • 7+ years technical experience in software engineering, network engineering, or systems administration  
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 4+ years technical experience in software engineering, network engineering, or systems administration  
    • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 3+ years technical experience in software engineering, network engineering, or systems administration  
    • OR Doctorate Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.  
  • Experience with developing IAM workflows and scripts on cloud infrastructure and cloud based IAM solutions such as Azure and Entra ID 
  • Experience maintaining large scale Microsoft Identity Manager (MIM) and Active Directory (AD) implementations 
  • Experience with C#, ASP.NET forms 
  • Experience handling directory object lifecycle and management of GPOs with advanced PowerShell scripting 
  • Experience performing data analytics on large data sets using tools such as Kusto Query Language (KQL), Splunk, or equivalent largescale service data management reporting and automation tool 
  • Outstanding communication skills 
  • Can translate complex technical detail into clear and concise business outcomes. 

Site Reliability Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Implement automation to enhance IAM services and develop new capabilities.

  • Recommend mitigation strategies based on trends identified in the analysis of key IAM metrics, key performance indicators (KPIs), and other data sources (e.g., bugs, unhealthy data pipeline).
  • Define and implement metrics to address gaps in measurement and reporting.
  • Influence team members to act in response to findings, prioritized by severity.
  • Recognize patterns and trends to recommend security policy improvements.
  • Ability to ingest new work while balancing existing priorities and prioritize work based on risk reduction
