Tesla seeks a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to lead paint process equipment installation, optimization, and maintenance at Gigafactory Berlin. Responsibilities include managing new equipment installations (planning to commissioning), developing and optimizing state-of-the-art equipment (HVAC, process heating, fire protection), ensuring seamless handover to production teams, collaborating with suppliers, driving energy efficiency, troubleshooting, and leading contractors. The role requires expertise in paint application, HVAC, hydraulics/pneumatics, and data analytics tools. The successful candidate will become a subject matter expert and collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve equipment reliability and minimize downtime.
Must have:
  • 5+ years manufacturing engineering experience
  • Experience with equipment installation & maintenance
  • Expertise in paint application, HVAC, hydraulics/pneumatics
  • Proficient in MS Office, mechanical drawings, schematics
  • BS in Industrial/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering
Good to have:
  • HVAC design principles & psychrometry understanding
  • Fluid machinery design understanding
  • Abatement systems experience
  • Data analytics tools experience (Python, PowerBI)
  • German fluency

The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and versatile Senior Manufacturing Engineer to join our team, with a focus on Paint Process Equipment. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to gain broad-based industrial manufacturing experience, working with ovens, air supply units, and paint booths. This role requires a strong foundation in paint application, air conditioning, hydraulics/pneumatics, and other related technologies.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead the installation of new equipment on green and brownfield sites, from planning and bidding to commissioning and ramp-up.
  • Develop and optimize state-of-the-art equipment, with a focus on HVAC systems, process heating systems and fire protection.
  • Align new installations utilities requirements with facility installed capacity
  • Ensure seamless handover of equipment to production, process, and maintenance teams, and coordinate detailed training and documentation.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to ensure equipment is built to agreed specifications and meets company standards.
  • Drive energy-saving and efficiency initiatives within existing equipment, and participate in troubleshooting actions to secure target OEE and quality levels.
  • Deliver project milestones on time, with a focus on contract execution, progress tracking, and clear communication.
  • Lead contractors and suppliers to achieve optimal results, through strong communication and technical solution validation.
  • Develop and implement innovative solutions to identified problems, balancing engineering excellence with financial viability.
  • Foster a culture of creativity and innovation, seeking practical solutions to day-to-day problems and projects.
  • Become a subject matter expert on all equipment, including mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and controls, and lead other engineers and technicians in the paint shop to improve performance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including process and equipment engineering, to resolve maintenance issues, improve equipment reliability, and minimize downtime.
  • Create and maintain a positive, collaborative work environment, with a focus on teamwork and open communication.
What You’ll Bring
  • Minimum BS Degree on Industrial/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering (other Technical Disciplines Encouraged to apply), or equivalent in experience.
  • 5+ years of manufacturing engineering experience.
  • Experience with equipment installation, commissioning, and maintenance, with focus on Process equipment and ventilation, as well curing zones.
  • Academical understanding of HVAC design principles and psychrometry will be considered a plus.
  • Academical understanding of fluid machinery design will be considered a plus.
  • Experience with abatement systems will be considered a plus.
  • Experience with data analytics tools and projects is highly appreciated (Python, PowerBI, etc.)
  • Ability to manage workload while contributing to a positive, team-oriented work environment.
  • Enjoys Troubleshooting and Problem Solving.
  • Proficient in the use of computer software (MS Word, Excel. PowerPoint etc.).
  • Able to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics and layouts.
  • Flexible work time and project-based overtime required.
  • Fluency in English language is mandatory (German fluency is advantageous).
