The Project Engineer - BESS, EMEA role at Tesla involves leading the design, installation, and commissioning of industrial battery storage projects. Responsibilities include engineering support during contracting, reviewing system design drawings, liaising with contractors and customers, driving the commissioning phase, and assisting with programming and testing. The role requires strong communication skills, experience with electrical design and system deployment, and knowledge of battery systems, power conversion, and relevant regulations. The engineer will also collaborate with the global Tesla Energy team, gathering technical requirements and providing feedback to improve processes. Must have:
  • Electrical Engineering Degree or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of battery systems, power conversion, and MV/HV systems
  • Experience in electrical design, system deployment, and commissioning
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of local codes and regulations
Good to have:
  • Project management or EPC experience
  • Health and Safety management experience
  • Programming/coding skills
  • Fluency in English and French
What to Expect

The Project Engineer role is multi-faceted but has its primary focus in delivering engineering expertise to larger battery storage sites. Project Engineers lead the design, installation, and commissioning phase of industrial storage projects, driving them to a successful operational state.

Project Engineers are also a key link between Tesla products/projects in the region and the engineering and manufacturing teams based in the US. It is vital to have the skills to work on a wide range of engineering issues involving a great variety of stakeholders, operating with a high degree of self-sufficiency. Experience with engineering projects deployment and a degree of practical experience is also highly beneficial. What You’ll Do
  • Engineering support during the contracting phase. Provide design and integration recommendations for different applications and project locations

Engineering lead during the deployment phases of the project:

  • Review and approval of system design drawings (electrical, civil, communications…)
  • Liaise and support for contractors, installers and customers as required
  • Drive of the commissioning phase to ensure projects reach an operational state successfully
  • Assistance with programming and testing of system controls
  • Point of contact for internal stakeholders and external parties to ensure consistent communication throughout the deployment

Work with the global Tesla Energy team to:

  • Favor collaboration between regions and stay up to date on latest project/product design and improvements
  • Gather and communicate the technical and regulatory requirements of the local markets to ensure compliance
  • Provide feedback on the design, installation and commissioning process to facilitate continuous improvement
What You’ll Bring
  • Degree in engineering, preferably electrical engineering. Alternatively, demonstrate exceptional ability in the electrical engineering field through equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of battery systems, electrical protection, power conversion, MV/HV systems, communication systems and control systems
  • Ability to prioritize and execute many tasks in parallel. An excellent attention to detail and quality decision making.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Professional fluency in English and French preferred
  • Relevant work experience, including significant involvement in electrical design, system deployment, test and commissioning
  • Knowledge of local codes and regulations. Experience with commercial or industrial electrical installations and with electricity distribution systems

In addition the following knowledge or experience is highly beneficial:

  • Facilitating grid connections
  • Project management and/or EPC experience
  • Health and Safety management
  • Programming / coding
