The Matchmove Supervisor is responsible for running shows as well as supporting and reviewing the work of their facility team. They will work closely with the show team as well as the Matchmove team to ensure they and their facility team provide 3d solutions that precisely recreate the movement & technical aspects of the subject matter. Successful applicants should have the ability to communicate well with neighboring departments, lead a team and be capable of delivering work to meet deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

    • Work with Matchmove Production, VFX/CG Supervisors, Producers, DPMs and other departments in delivering the shots on time
    • Responsible for supervising an average of 2-3 shows concurrently
    • Attend show kickoffs and other show specific meetings
    • Be the Matchmove point of contact along with the Matchmove show lead for other departments and show production
    • Guide leads with shot briefs and task methodology to maintain the most effective and efficient technical approach and workflow possible
    • Oversee requests from show production and provide strategy in cooperation with the show lead
    • Assist lead in troubleshooting show technical issues such as problems with retimes, motion blur issues, outsource ingestion, etc.
    • Keep an eye on show communication and flag potential issues including the validity of requests made to the department, if requests could be done in a different department (eg. 2d only) or with a more efficient approach
    • Assist show lead with shot reviews or ingestions when needed
    • Work with HOD for new show setup, including guiding shows with plate resolution and reformatting inquiries, lens grid ingestion, documenting camera specs, etc.
    • Manage show 911 requests and how it affects other shot priorities
    • Train and supervise new leads
    • Be a temp show lead to support shows with shot work for bidding or test projects that don’t have a full production or lead yet
    • Manage technical communications with outsource vendors
    • Help with artists show side IT/Pipeline issues, escalating when necessary

Minimum Qualifications

    • Minimum five (5) years in a similar role within the VFX industry for feature film
    • One (1) to two (2) years of experience as a show supervisor
    • Firm grasp of 3D tracking principles and toolsets
    • Must thrive in a team environment and enjoy working with the team
    • Demonstrate a good eye for detail and precision with strong problem-solving skills
    • Able to deliver results to a high standard with the aid and direction of the Matchmove & Layout Leads / Supervisors.
    • Ability to be adaptable and accepting of changes in a production schedule
    • Aware of project schedules and capable of delivering work to deadlines
    • Aware of overall team deadlines and schedule; communicating with the department production manager and/or coordinator any and all shifts in scheduled dates
    • Software requirements: 3d Equalizer - Advanced, Maya - Advanced, Nuke - Intermediate, Shotgun – Intermediate
