Job Description

As a Hardware Validation Engineer at Google Cloud, you'll support new product development by designing, building, and maintaining system-level tests in the R&D labs. You will collaborate with engineering teams, developing software and hardware systems, methodologies, and tools. Responsibilities include designing testbeds, maintaining lab infrastructure, coordinating lab interactions, troubleshooting issues, generating implementation plans, and providing technical guidance during deployment. The role requires experience with Linux, networking, data center servers, and debugging. Preferred qualifications include experience in data center operations, network design, and scripting languages (e.g., Python).
Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field
  • 2 years hardware engineering experience (or 1 year with advanced degree)
  • Linux, networking, troubleshooting expertise
  • Data center server experience
  • Debugging/troubleshooting skills
Good to have:
  • Master's/PhD in relevant field
  • Data center/network operations experience
  • Network design, protocol knowledge
  • Experience with computer systems (physical, functional, etc.)
  • Python or other scripting language skills

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a specialized field (e.g., Optics, Sensors, Audio/DSP, etc.), or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience working in a hardware engineering technical environment, or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree.
  • Experience with Linux, networking, network troubleshooting, failure diagnosis, data center server, debugging/troubleshooting.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related field (e.g., Optics, Sensors, Audio/DSP).
  • Experience working within a data center or networking operation center environment.
  • Experience with network design, protocols, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with computer systems (e.g., physical, functional, logical, mechanical, electrical, software, thermal, etc.).
  • Experience reading and writing code in Python or other scripting language.

In this role, you will support new product engineering and development in Google’s hardware research and development labs by helping to design, build, and maintain system-level tests. You will perform work that allows product development teams to focus on development.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $122,000-$178,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Help design and build system-level testbeds and maintain lab space, tools, and infrastructure.
  • Work with teams to develop software and hardware systems, develop methodologies and tools to support team members.
  • Coordinate the interactions between labs and engineering teams.
  • Anticipate and resolve problems by applying knowledge, escalate design, manufacturing, and product test issues to other people within the organization when needed.
  • Generate implementation plans and provide technical knowledge and guidance during deployment activities.
