Patreon is a media and community platform where creators give their biggest fans access to exclusive work and experiences. Over 300k creators are cultivating fandoms and building their businesses each month. Creators can offer free memberships to fans looking to explore more of their work, paid memberships to give access to exclusive media and community, or sell directly to fans with Shops.

Ultimately our goal is simple: fund the creative class. And we're leaders in that space, with:

  • 8B+ earned since Patreon's inception

  • 30M free new memberships in the first year of launching that option, and

  • 10M fans paying each month for exclusive access to creators' work and community.

We're continuing to invest heavily in building the best creator products with the best team in the creator economy and are looking for an Executive Communications Manager to support our mission

This role is based in New York or San Francisco and open to those who are able to be in-office 2 days per week on a hybrid work model.

About the team

The Comms & Experiential teams are responsible for shaping the stories we tell and bringing them to life (both IRL and online). We do that by crafting compelling narratives, producing events that amplify the power of fandoms, shaping and sharing our unique perspective, and connecting with audiences who influence the perception of Patreon. We aim to build cultural relevance, legitimize the creator economy and the staying power of creativity as a career, inspire confidence in the strength of our business, and build trust with our creators by helping them connect with their biggest fans.

Patreon is in the midst of transforming from a set-and-forget payment service to a media and community platform where creators give their biggest fans access to exclusive work and experiences. To accomplish this bold vision, our entire company needs to operate in lockstep to build a product and tell our platform’s story in a way that breaks through and resonates with creators. Our goal is to become the most trusted platform for creators and their biggest fans by building the most creator-first platform in the industry.

About the Role

Tapping into the strength of Patreon’s executive leadership team is an important way for us to tell our story, which is why we’re looking for an Executive Communications Manager to join the team. This person will help shape the voice of Patreon’s leadership across internal and external channels. You’ll partner with the PR team and the CEO’s Chief of Staff to help execute a comprehensive communications plan that positions Patreon executives as thought leaders. You’ll produce the assets and materials needed for our leaders to successfully tell our brand story in media interviews, public speaking engagements, industry conferences, and major company events, ensuring consistent, impactful messaging and alignment with our overall vision, mission, and strategy.

This person will wear many hats to make sure our leaders show up as trusted spokespeople for our brand. As a writer and producer, you’re creative, resourceful, and curious. As an editor, you’re scrupulous and quick. As an advisor to executives, you’re sensitive, communicative, and emotionally attuned - but you’re not afraid to poke holes and ask questions to get the message right. As a partner, you're collaborative and outcome-focused.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for:

  • Partnering with the Sr. Director of Events & Editorial to program the monthly All Hands and other large company forums (like our annual company kickoff), making sure we have a strong executive presence across large company channels.

  • Ensuring alignment on key messaging across our most important external-facing channels (like our website, LinkedIn, Newsroom, etc.) and craft timely exec-level comms to editorialize these channels.

  • Partnering with the Chief of Staff to the CEO and the PR team to craft comms & presentations for the CEO and extended leadership for media interviews, public speaking engagements, and industry conferences.

  • Producing the messaging and plans needed to keep the extended leadership team informed of important company information.

  • Partnering with execs on important business decisions, leading the development of messaging and change management materials needed to bring the company along.

About you

The ideal person for this job is a strong communicator who is passionate about the Patreon brand, internet culture, and the creator economy. You’re a self-starter who works well in an ever-evolving environment and crushes a to-do list.

You must be an expert connector, as this is a highly collaborative role where you’ll need to partner closely with the PR team, Chief of Staff to the CEO, Brand Design & Creative teams, and the entire executive team.

  • You have proven experience planning and executing simultaneous projects.

  • You enjoy bringing stories to life through a variety of formats, with strong writing, editing, and presentation skills.

  • You have strong experience working with and managing multiple stakeholders, particularly executives, across various backgrounds and professional domains.

  • You have a knack for digging to find the right, most compelling stories amidst a lot of competing noise.

  • You have experience in corporate communications, executive communications, public relations, or a related field, preferably at a consumer technology company.

  • You consistently meet deadlines, manage up, and work well under pressure, and occasionally remain available after normal work hours to address any urgent matters.

  • You are a consummate connector and an expert collaborator, who loves to connect the dots in a fast-paced setting.

  • You’re motivated and organized, with both excellent editorial judgment and superb people skills.
