The Embedded Senior Software Engineer will develop and support software solutions for Pixel power management, diagnosability, and optimization. This involves leading design, development, and support for advanced power optimization software/firmware for Pixel SoC. Responsibilities include prioritizing optimization for power, latency, and system stability; debugging and triaging power issues; and improving observability of hardware and subsystem power states. The role requires extensive experience in embedded systems development, C programming, and data structures/algorithms. Experience with power management software for embedded systems and Linux kernel is highly preferred. The successful candidate will be part of the Google Pixel team, contributing to enhancing battery life and user experience for Pixel devices and the Android ecosystem.
Must have:
  • 5+ years C programming experience
  • Embedded systems development expertise
  • Experience with SoC and Linux kernel
  • Software design & architecture experience
  • Power management software development
Good to have:
  • Master's or PhD in Computer Science
  • Experience with C++, Rust, or Python
  • Knowledge of computer architecture, real-time systems
  • Experience with Android Kernel and device drivers

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience with software development in C programming language, and data structures/algorithms.
  • 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.
  • Experience in embedded systems development, SoC, Linux kernel.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • Experience in power management software for embedded systems.
  • Experience with power management, system on a chip, firmware, or device drivers.
  • Working knowledge of computer architecture, real time systems, microprocessors, Linux drivers, and Android Kernel.
  • Proficiency coding with C++, Rust, or Python languages.

The Pixel Power Management Software Team Leads, create and support software solutions to manage, measure, and monitor Pixel device power along with detection, attribution, and mitigation of power issues in order to improve battery life for Pixel devices and by extension, the Android ecosystem for end-user experience with battery life.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and support software solutions and tools for Pixel power management, power diagnosability, and power optimization.
  • Lead team efforts in design, development, and support for advanced power optimization Software/Firmware for Pixel SoC.
  • Prioritize optimization for power, latency, and system stability.
  • Debug and triage power issues.
  • Improve observability of the hardware and subsystem power states to Android Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL).
