Summary

The Director of Software Engineering at Cast & Crew will lead the design, development, and execution of data architecture and engineering strategies. This role involves managing a team of engineers, collaborating with data scientists and business leaders, and ensuring data integrity, scalability, and accessibility. Responsibilities include designing data engineering solutions (including document management and OCR technologies), building scalable data pipelines, ensuring efficient data extraction and transformation, and upholding data governance and security. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data engineering, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure), big data technologies (Spark, Kafka), and experience with OCR and document management systems. They will also mentor the team, stay updated on industry trends, and communicate effectively with senior management.

Position Overview

The Director of Data Engineering will lead the design, development, and execution of data architecture and engineering strategies. This role will manage a team of engineers and work closely with data engineers/scientists, business leaders, and IT to ensure the integrity, scalability, and accessibility of data. The Director will also oversee document management and OCR (Optical Character Recognition) technologies, ensuring effective data extraction and transformation processes.

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and management of data engineering solutions, including document management systems and OCR technologies.
  • Build scalable data pipelines and architectures for processing large datasets.
  • Ensure efficient data extraction and transformation processes, leveraging OCR for digitizing documents and integrating with core data systems.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, business teams, and IT for effective data utilization.
  • Ensure data governance, compliance, and security best practices are upheld.
  • Optimize the performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness of the data platform.
  • Mentor and develop a high-performing data engineering team.
  • Stay up-to-date on industry trends and emerging technologies, especially in data management and OCR.
  • Ensure that software products meet the highest security standards and comply with relevant industry regulations and data protection requirements.
  • Communicate progress, risks, and technical challenges to senior management and stakeholders, providing regular updates on product development initiatives.
  • Foster a collaborative environment, promoting effective communication and knowledge sharing among engineering teams and cross-functional departments.

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in data engineering, with strong leadership and team management experience.
  • Expertise in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and big data technologies (Spark, Kafka).
  • Experience with OCR technologies and document management systems.
  • Strong knowledge of ETL/ELT processes, data modeling, and database management.
  • Strong knowledge of modern data warehouses (Snowflake, Databricks)
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Exceptional program management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage resources effectively.
  • A passion for innovation, continuous learning, and keeping up with emerging technologies and industry trends.
  • Solid experience in event driven design paradigm using applications (Kafka, SQS, SNS etc.)
  • Proficient in designing, building, and deploying microservices-based applications.

Special Work Conditions    

  • Sedentary – Involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Some positions may entail exerting up to 15 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force to lift, carry, push, or pull.
Compensation is commensurate with various factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, qualifications, skills, training, licensure, certifications, geographic cost of labor, and other business and organizational needs. Compensation range for candidates in other locations may differ based on the cost of labor in that location.
The compensation range for this position is:
$170,000$185,000 USD
