BlackMill Games is seeking an experienced VFX Artist with a passion for history to work on their WW1-themed multiplayer first-person shooters. You will be responsible for creating realistic VFX effects, integrating them into the game using Unity 6's HDRP toolset, optimizing and debugging your work. Strong knowledge of Unity 6 shadergraph, VFX graph, and volumetric systems is required. Experience with realistic art styles and HDRP is essential.

About The WW1 Game Series

The WW1 Game Series is a series of intense multiplayer first-person shooters delivering authentic and immersive First World

War action on PC and Console. 

The series contains Verdun (2015), Tannenberg (2019) and Isonzo (2022).

With the launch of the critically-acclaimed Isonzo in September 2022 our team has reached an important milestone in delivering a quality multi-platform game.

BlackMill Games is looking for an experienced VFX Artist with a passion for history to work on our series of WW1-themed

multiplayer first-person shooters. 

You will be responsible for creating beautiful (mostly environment/prop) 3D art and be working alongside the Art Director and Environment Artists to meet the thematic, stylistic, and quality standards set for our  projects.


Responsibilities :

  •  Create realistic VFX effects such as dirt explosions, weapon muzzle flashes, and environmental particles based on real-life examples.
  •  Integrate VFX effects into the game using Unity 6's latest HDRP toolset, write custom shaders, and set up materials.
  •  Optimize and debug the VFX you create to ensure smooth, stable, and visually stunning gameplay.


Job requirements

Qualifications (all mandatory)

  • As a VFX artist, you have worked on at least one shipped title with a realistic art style.
  • In Unity 6:
    • Know how to work with Unity 6 shadergraph and Unity 6 VFX graph.
    • Know how to profile, debug, and optimize these
    • Know how to work with Unity 6 Volumetrics system
    • Know how to create realistic sprites and flipbooks (in external software if necessary)
    • Know how to work with Unity 6-way lighting setup
    • Has some Unity (HDRP) knowledge.

● You understand how to set up a good art pipeline.

- Experience in working with rendering pipelines.

- You can identify issues and help streamline art asset creation.

- Technically adept so you can support scripting and automation.

  • Create clear documentation and guides for other artists to learn from.
  • Read, write, and talk in excellent English. (Only applications fully written in English will de reviewed)
  • Timezone should not differ more than 4 hours from Amsterdam (UTC-3 - UTC+5).

Bonus Skills/Experience

  • Affinity for World War One.
  • Passionate gamer.
  • Artistic skills and understanding of color theory and composition.
  • Notions of HLSL and C# are a bonus.
  • Console development experience.
  • Available for 32-40 hours per week.
