Job Description

Tesla's drive unit development team seeks skilled performance modeling engineers to advance power electronics for electric vehicles. Responsibilities include implementing power stage loss and thermal models in MATLAB/Simulink, leveraging the traction inverter model for vehicle architecture initiatives, maintaining and expanding model capabilities, collaborating with cross-functional teams (mechanical, thermal, PCBA, firmware), and identifying performance limits. This is a high-visibility role involving cutting-edge technology in a fast-paced environment.
Must have:
  • M.Sc. in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or equivalent
  • Power converter modeling in MATLAB/Simulink
  • Experience with custom software development and maintenance
  • Understanding of switching waveforms, semiconductor losses, and thermal behavior
  • Experience with Git/Github
Good to have:
  • Knowledge of electric machines, thermal design, and mechanical design

What You’ll Do
  • Implement (MATLAB/Simulink) power stage loss and thermal models for traction inverter applications.​

  • Leverage the traction inverter model to produce repeatable and dependable results to drive vehicle architecture initiatives and roadmaps.​

  • Maintain and grow organically the capabilities of the model - software architecture.​

  • Collaborate with mechanical, thermal, PCBA, and firmware engineering teams to identify the limits of traction inverter performance.

What You’ll Bring
  • M.Sc. in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or equivalent experience. ​

  • Experience with power converter modelling in MATLAB/Simulink.​

  • Experience working with, developing, and maintaining custom software source code.​

  • Good understanding of switching waveforms, semiconductor losses and thermal behavior of power components.​

  • Experience with Git/Github.​

Additional Preferred Skills​

  • Knowledge of electric machines, thermal design, and mechanical design.
