Job Description

As an Android Staff Software Engineer at Google's Hubs Experiences team, you'll design and build user-friendly Gemini experiences for Smart Display products. This involves the entire development lifecycle, from concept to implementation. You'll tackle complex technical problems, define the technical architecture, and collaborate with Product Managers, UX Designers, and a distributed engineering team. The role requires shaping product strategy and ensuring seamless integration across platforms (mobile, wearables, etc.). The tech stack includes Android, Flutter, Dart, server-driven UI, and cast receiver. Responsibilities include managing project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables; designing, developing, testing, deploying, maintaining, and enhancing software solutions; and working on a project critical to Google's needs.
Must have:
  • 8+ years software development experience
  • 5+ years Android app development
  • 5+ years testing & launching software
  • 3+ years software design & architecture
  • Strong data structures & algorithms skills
Good to have:
  • Master's/PhD in related field
  • 3+ years technical leadership
  • Experience in complex, matrixed organizations

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in software development, and with data structures/algorithms.
  • 5 years of experience testing, and launching software products, and 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.
  • 5 years of experience with Android application development.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
  • 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional or cross-business projects.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build innovative, user-friendly Gemini experiences for our Smart Display product line. This includes everything from initial concept to final implementation.
  • Address challenging technical problems, explore potential solutions, and guide the team towards the best approach.
  • Define the technical direction and architecture of our Android-based Smart Display solutions.
  • Work closely with Product Managers, UX Designers, and a Distributed Engineering team to shape product strategy, roadmap, and ensure seamless integration across different platforms (e.g., mobile, wearables, tablets, TV, etc.).
  • Work on a tech stack that includes Android, Flutter, Dart, server-driven UI, cast receiver, and more.
