SYBO is growing. We’re releasing new games, building on the massive success of Subway Surfers as the most downloaded game of all time (4 billion downloads and counting!) and continuing to excite and surprise the most important people in the world: Our players!

We are a seasoned and accomplished team embarking on a journey to create one of the most successful mobile games ever, following our big success of Subway Surfers. Currently, we're seeking a Senior Game Engineer to collaborate with us in swiftly materializing fresh concepts. You will be crafting gameplay, meta gameplay features, UI elements, and seamlessly integrating the game with backend services. We look for an engineer with a broad skill set, who is as passionate as the rest of us for creating a highly successful title.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the development team to design, implement, and optimize game features for mobile platforms
  • Develop and maintain gameplay systems, including mechanics, physics, and UI/UX elements
  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality code that meets project requirements and performance targets
  • Work closely with artists, designers, and other stakeholders to translate their vision into technical requirements and solutions
  • Apply industry best practices and adhere to coding standards, including the use of S.O.L.I.D. principles, YAGNI, KISS, and BDUF
  • Optimize game performance, memory management, and loading times
  • Collaborate with the QA team to identify and resolve bugs and issues in a timely manner
  • Stay up to date with the latest trends and advancements in mobile game development and contribute to improving our development processes

Your start at SYBO

In your first month

You will Familiarize yourself with our existing game development processes, codebase, and tools and gain an understanding of the project. You will slowly start contributing through individual tasks, code reviews and feedback to ensure high quality in our work. You will establish great working relationships across all our disciplines, such as art, design and QA.

During your first three months

You will start taking ownership of specific tasks and will be collaborating closely with designers and artists to implement gameplay mechanics, UI features and visual effects. You will be identifying areas for improvement within existing code and propose new solutions to enhance performance and scalability.

Over the course of your first 12 months

You will lead and drive critical game features and systems of high technical standards, and continuously optimize and enhance game performance and user experience. You are contributing to the overall technical roadmap and long term vision of our game development, and helping us develop and deliver a highly successful title.

Requirements

  • Great communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills to effectively explain complex concepts to stakeholders of varying technical backgrounds
  • Professional experience in the mobile game industry, specifically working on F2P games
  • Strong knowledge of the Unity game engine, including its features, limitations, and optimization techniques
  • Proficiency in C# and a deep understanding of memory management principles
  • Ability to write clean, efficient code and apply best practices for software development

Bonus points

  • Familiarity with the Entity Component System architectural pattern and with the principles behind data oriented programming
  • Experience working with native plugins for Android and iOS
  • Experience integrating with backend services and third party libraries
