Summary

Nissan seeks a Runtime Development Research Intern in Silicon Valley to contribute to the design and implementation of runtime systems for application-specific accelerators. Responsibilities include developing runtime libraries and APIs for efficient resource utilization, performing benchmarking and performance analysis, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and documenting research findings. The ideal candidate will be enrolled in a Master's or Ph.D. program in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, possess proficiency in C/C++, and have experience with runtime systems, hardware accelerators, and performance optimization. The intern will contribute to bringing AI capabilities to Nissan's vehicles, working on cutting-edge AI/ML algorithms, models, computer architecture, and silicon technology.
Must have:

We are currently looking for a Runtime Development Research Intern to join our team in Silicon Valley, CA.

At our Center in Silicon Valley, we design the silicon processors and hardware accelerators which will bring artificial intelligence (AI) in full to the Software-Defined Vehicles (SDV) of the future.  From enabling autonomous driving systems to designing experiences for future vehicle concepts, our researchers apply advances in silicon technology for pervasive AI in the car.  We are exploring the cutting edge of AI/ML algorithms, AI models, computer architecture, and silicon technology to bring datacenter-class AI capabilities to all our cars. And we emphasize superior solutions will come from making it easy to program and use our new accelerators. We strive not only to push the boundaries of AI, but also to focus deeply on how to make human and machine elements interact and work together better and work together better through compiler and runtime technology.

A Day in the Life:   

  • Assist in the design and implementation of runtime systems tailored for application-specific accelerators.
  • Develop runtime libraries and APIs to support efficient resource utilization and performance.
  • Perform benchmarking and performance analysis to guide optimization efforts.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate runtime solutions into broader software stacks.
  • Document research findings, implementation strategies, and performance metrics.

Who We’re Looking for: 

  • Enrolled in a Master’s, or (preferred) Ph.D. program in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++ and experience with runtime systems.
  • Understanding of hardware accelerators, parallel processing, and performance optimization.
  • Strong analytical skills and a passion for performance optimization.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a research-oriented environment.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to present technical concepts clearly.

Bonus points if you have:

  • Experience with modeling AI algorithms using C/C++ and Python
  • Experience with computer architecture modeling and simulation.
  • Experience with ARM architecture and heterogeneous computing optimizations.
  • Experience with GPU concepts and CUDA programming.
  • Experience with high-level hardware blocks modeling with SystemC and High-Level Synthesis (HLS) tools for either FPGA or ASIC.  
  • Strong communication skills both written and oral.

Salary Range:

$15.00 - $35.00
