Tesla’s drive unit development team is looking for skilled and motivated engineering technicians to push the drive unit propelling our vehicles to the next level. The engineering team is presently working to improve the current - and design the next - generation of drive units and you will support them assembling/tearing down drive units, fabricating and operating test setups, troubleshooting electromechanical issues, and maintaining a high voltage laboratory. Projects are open ended and often with limited up front guidance, so you must be a self-starter, a builder and able to figure out how to do things. It's an exciting work environment with plenty of engineering resources and bright colleagues to collaborate with. As an industry leading company, Tesla offers the opportunity to work on bleeding edge technology in a fast paced, dynamic, and high visibility role.
Assemble, repair, teardown, and inspect drive unit assemblies while documenting your work.
Fabricate and operate electromechanical test setups following documentation meticulously.
Assess and document test results comprehensively with precise attention to measurements and observations.
Perform hands-on troubleshooting, debugging, and failure analysis of components using tools like digital microscopes, multi-meters.
Fabricate and modify parts for test rigs and prototypes.
Maintain a high voltage laboratory, for example purchasing equipment and restocking consumables.
Proficiency with hand tools (including soldering irons), thermo-couples, power tools, machine shop equipment (band saws, grinders, mills, lathes, CNC, and presses) as well as electrical/electronic equipment (digital multi-meters, meg-ohm testers, sensors, power supplies), and thermocouple.
Exceptional electromechanical aptitude with the ability to disassemble and reassemble complex equipment without instructions.
Experience with hands-on electromechanical troubleshooting and failure analysis.
Understanding of electrical hazards and safety protocols, especially concerning high-voltage equipment and machine shop equipment.
Meticulous documentation and reporting skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Additional Preferred Skills
Experience building and safely operating high-voltage electromechanical test setups.
Experience with mechanical cross-sectioning, polishing, and optical microscopy.
