Job Description

As a Cricket Systems Operator at Hawk-Eye Innovations, you'll be responsible for deploying ball-tracking, edge-detection, and Match Officials' communication technologies at cricket events globally. This involves working with hardware and software to ensure high-quality experiences at major sporting events. You'll be directly impacting key moments in cricket matches, potentially contributing to crucial LBW calls or narrating decisive bowling spells during major tournaments. The role demands technical skills, strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, excellent communication, and a keen interest in cricket and sports technology. Extensive international travel is expected (up to 250 days/year), requiring adaptability and the ability to work effectively in diverse and high-pressure environments.

📍Location: UK Based with regular global travel around the world to Cricket playing nations

📝Contract: Permanent, Full-Time

💰Salary: £25,950 per annum (bonus up to 10%, plus package)

🧳Travel: Extensive global travel to Cricket-playing nations (travel, accommodation and daily living allowance expenses paid by Hawk-Eye)

As a Cricket Systems Operator, you will be responsible for delivering our world-renowned ball-tracking, edge-detection, and Match Officials' communications technologies, as well as providing other officiating and broadcast-enhancing technologies at cricket events around the world. This role provides a genuine opportunity to create a direct impact on the biggest occasions and moments in cricket; this could be providing an LBW call during a Test match at Lords; or telling the story of the decisive bowling spell during the Cricket World Cup Final.

What Difficulties Might I Face?🔦

Up to this point, I’m sure there have been many things that you find intriguing about the role, however, there can be difficult times:

Working Hours: Due to the nature of the sports industry, there is often work on weekends and midweek evenings and we are expected to fulfil our roles until the last ball has been hit. 

Travelling Abroad: You can expect to spend on average up to 250 days per year on tour away from home. Whilst there are glamorous locations where major tournaments are held, there are also some locations that you may not have anticipated that you will be expected to travel to.

The countries we visit and the amount of time we spend in those countries will vary from year to year based on where different tournaments are located. This is what the teams 2023 looked like, based on the amount of time we spent in each country: 

Working & Living in Different Timezones: This role is tour-based which means you will be spending time away from family and friends where social events could be missed. Also, working in different time zones can make communication more challenging. 

High-Pressure Situations: Working in a live broadcast environment on a production that is distributed to millions worldwide will bring high levels of pressure. 

All of these factors offer different challenges daily as an operator. We will do all that we can to train you and support you to the best possible level but these challenges must be considered before submitting your application.

  • Assessment Event: Successful candidates from the video interview/online assessment stage will be invited to one of our Hawk-Eye Assessment Events. This will be in-person and you will be provided with further details and preparation material prior to the event. 

  • Offers & Feedback: The team will take time to review all feedback and conduct our final reviews. All candidates will receive detailed feedback from the assessment event whether they have been successful or not as we understand each candidate's desire for development.
