Fool's Theory is seeking a skilled Concept Artist/Environment Concept Artist to contribute to their upcoming project in collaboration with CD PROJEKT RED. Responsibilities include creating high-quality environment concepts, collaborating with the art team and director, iterating on designs, communicating visual ideas, focusing on architecture and modularity, creating art design bibles, and researching reference material. The ideal candidate possesses professional game development experience, a strong portfolio, excellent Photoshop skills, and proficient English communication. Additional skills in character/weapon design, storyboarding, 3D software, Unreal Engine, and level design principles are highly valued.

About the job

We are Fool’s Theory, a company from Bielsko-Biała in Poland, creators of the game Seven: The Days Long Gone and The Thaumaturge.
We are actively seeking skilled individuals to join our team to work on a project developed in cooperation with CD PROJEKT RED.

Responsibilities

  • Working closely with the Concept Art Team and Art Director to create industry leading quality concepts, and specializing in Environment design.
  • Ability to create unique designs with consistent quality.
  • Ability to conceptualize realistic art styles. Adaptability to stylized art is a plus.
  • Iterating on ideas quickly through sketches and thumbnails.
  • Communicating visual ideas across teams and departments.
  • Strong focus on architecture designs and history with a deep understanding of modularity and materials used in the design.
  • Ability to create concept drawing based on written or verbal art direction references.
  • Ability to derive and create smaller art design bibles based on global art direction.
  • Strong sense of design and composition for environment sketches and illustrations.
  • Ability to conceptualize modules that are part of a larger design.
  • Good eye for detail, materials, and scale while being able to illustrate with all of the following clearly.
  • Researching and collecting valuable visual reference material.
  • Refraining from using AI generative tools to produce imagery for this job.
  • Ability to create Characters and Weapons or Props is very welcome.
  • Ability to create storyboards and cooperate with the cinematic team is a big plus.

Requirements

  • Professional experience in game development or a related industry.
  • High Quality portfolio of game art.
  • Excellent knowledge of Photoshop.
  • Good English communication and writing skills are a must.
  • A proactive team player, self-motivated, can work without direct supervision.
  • Excellent time and priority management skills.
  • Decent knowledge of 3D Software Packages is a plus.
  • Basic understanding of level design principles is a plus.
  • Basic experience with using the Unreal Engine or similar is a plus.

  • Working in a group of experienced specialists, often gamedev veterans, who are willing to share their knowledge.
  • Custom tools to automate boring, repetitive stuff.
  • Working with modern tools from leading technology suppliers (e.g. Jetbrains), as well as with our proprietary solutions.
  • Support in industry training courses, conferences and fairs participation (both as a participant or speaker).

About The Company

We're a collective of AAA veterans who decided to take a break from big productions and find refuge in the mountains of southern Poland. In the past, we've contributed our skills to the critical and commercial successes of games such as The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt or Baldur's Gate 3.
