The Commission Accounting Analyst at Google Cloud is responsible for analyzing complex commission systems, utilizing SQL and other analytical tools to design scalable solutions. This role requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to create detailed documentation. Responsibilities include identifying and escalating barriers to management, independently accessing key data sources, elevating manual processes to automated solutions, understanding and improving the control environment, managing data consistency, and performing IPE testing. The ideal candidate will possess experience with commission systems, US GAAP, and internal control best practices. A CPA or CA certification is preferred. This role involves collaboration with a global team and contributing to process improvement initiatives to support Google's business objectives.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance or equivalent experience
  • 4 years of accounting experience (or 1 year with advanced degree)
  • Experience with commission systems and spreadsheets
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • US GAAP and internal control knowledge
  • SQL skills
  • Excellent documentation skills
Good to have:
  • CPA or CA certification
  • Project management experience
  • Python skills
  • Experience with general incentive commission workflows

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 4 years of experience in accounting or a related function, or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree in Accounting, Business, or Finance.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Accountant (CA).
  • Experience with commission systems and spreadsheet software.
  • Experience managing project planning, status reporting, timeline estimation, issue tracking, meeting facilitation, and project documentation.
  • Experience with United States GAAP and internal control best practices, including a solid understanding of accounting principles.
  • Familiarity with general incentive commission workflows from contracting to payout SQL or Python skills.
  • Ability to have strong attention to detail and focus on continuous improvement, with excellent organizational and problem solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Be responsible for learning and analyzing a complex network of systems and reporting tools utilized to analyze and assess commissions and associated capitalization.
  • Utilize analytical tools, including SQL scripts, to design and implement solutions that can scale, while identifying and escalating barriers to management. Independently navigate, pursue and achieve access to key data sources while maintaining professional skepticism around control reliance.
  • Create exceptional detailed documentation for all processes and tasks with the expectation of keeping these up-to-date with an ever changing environment. Elevate steady-state manual processes to a semi-automated or automated scalable solution.
  • Understand the existing control environment with the ability to further identify risks and effectively communicate and execute opportunities for improvements. Manage data consistency across various systems and be responsible for related IPE testing.
