Responsibilities
GENERAL PURPOSE:
Supports faculty and student research through the development and creation of extended reality (XR) experiences, apps, and projects in order to create new knowledge and technology-rich experiential learning opportunities. Creates and builds XR experiences (virtual reality programs utilized in headsets and for augmented reality apps for tablets and other devices) apps, and software to help faculty in their research and teaching. Consults with faculty and students to help troubleshoot research challenges and provide recommendations and training on specific extended reality hardware, software, and experiences.
This is an on-site position with the potential to work remotely 1-2 days a week, depending on teaching and event needs.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Extended Reality Consultations
Conducts extended reality consultations for faculty and students, including virtual and in-person drop-in hours and one-on-one meetings. Works with research teams and staff to determine scope, feasibility, technical requirements, phases, and timelines of various project plans.
Extended Reality Project Management and Support
Participates in project team meetings with faculty, staff, and students. Leads these teams in the building rapid prototypes of XR experiences (both Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality programs) in order to help faculty members obtain a proof of concept or provide a minimally viable product for the purpose of securing grant funding. Implements sustainable infrastructure, including documentation and versioning for ongoing XR projects. Responsible for versioning for ongoing XR experiences/software development and ensuring all code and developed programs are well documented and in alignment with industry standards for versioning.
Studio X Space and Programming Support
Develops and facilitates training and workshops related to XR tools and platforms, including pre-college programs and course integrations. Provides opportunities for the campus community to learn about projects, assignments, research, and emerging trends in XR. Mentors student-employees supporting Studio X programming and projects, and provides input on technology purchases and refresh cycles.
Professional Development
Remains current on new and emerging trends in XR, including platforms and use cases across disciplines. Participates in professional networks and organizations to expand knowledge base and share departmental work with a broader community.
Support for Emerging Strategic Priorities
Identifies and conducts pilot projects to test new technologies in alignment with emerging strategic priorities. Participates in River Campus Libraries and University committees, meetings, and events.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
Bachelor's degree
2 years of XR project development experience using Unity or Unreal (ex., combination of independent projects, internships, job experience, and/or advanced coursework)
Knowledge of at least one object-oriented scripting language (C# preferred, Java or C++ also accepted)
Advanced knowledge of XR platforms (Unity, Unreal)
Familiarity with ARCore or ARKit
Experience developing for and deploying to XR hardware (in particular VR headsets)
Version control software (Git)
High level of problem- solving ability
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment with a high degree of accountability
Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion
Preferred:
Familiarity with 3D modeling approaches and platforms (Blender, Maya)
Experience with 3D reality capture technology, such as 3D scanning and photogrammetry
Instructional skills, with preference for workshop or teaching experience at the college level
Aptitude for and willingness to learn and explore new and emerging technologies

Pay Range
Pay Range: $70,197 - $105,295 Annually
The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined byconsidering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
